Beth Foister grew up in the Detroit area, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at Wayne State University. As a Chemical Engineer Beth worked for Great Lakes Steel Company, 3M, Dow - Essex Specialty Products and Lear Seating in roles ranging from environmental protection, color matching and development, R&D for automotive sealants and adhesives and product and process optimization.
During college Beth tried rock climbing, it turned out to be a sport she loved because it “puts people out of their comfort zone… it offers creative problem solving… it’s like vertical chess…you have to strategize and plan ahead.” She took that passion and focused it on opening and running an indoor rock climbing gym. In 1994 when the first gym opened it was a revolutionary way of doing business and became the model of the future. At first, Beth did both her engineering job and the climbing business in her free time.
After 11 years in business Beth was ready to move on and sold her interest in the gyms and moved to the Southeast where she could enjoy more outdoor adventures in a moderate climate. Beth Foister now serves as a business advisor to business owners, utilizing her combined experience as a Chemical/Process Engineer and a recovering entrepreneur, to help business owners avoid the pitfalls she experienced first-hand.
